Heavy rain over various parts of Singapore in the late afternoon yesterday saw the Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) dropping to below 50, which is in the good range.
And if the showers continue today, Singaporeans can experience a respite from the haze.
A spokesman from the National Environment Agency told The Sunday Times the hazy conditions would likely continue today, but showers are expected and it could bring more relief.
At 11pm yesterday, the three-hour reading dipped further to 28. This was the lowest level recorded over the last four days.
From the early hours of Sunday morning (12am to 7am) the PSI reading stayed under 30 before it rose slightly to 38 between 8am to 10am.
The lowered PSI readings brought families out yesterday. Many spent the day outdoors at East Coast Park while Orchard Road was packed with shoppers.
Over at Suntec City, the Canon PhotoMarathon also saw 1,700 people participating, while S-League matches resumed after some games were postponed due to the high PSI level.
However, businesses continue to be affected by the haze. Owner of My3Wheels Andrew Kung, 39, told the paper his trikke – a three-wheel cambering vehicle – business was down 80 per cent compared to last weekend.
